The dark side of sugar: your mental health is at risk

By Orlando de Jes… | September 15, 2026
El azucar afecta tu salud mental.

Neuroscience and psychiatry have been showing that what begins as a comforting rush of pleasure ends up, over time, undermining our mental well-being. Sugar is not the antidepressant we believe it to be; it behaves more like a chemical impostor that disrupts the brain's delicate balance and sets the stage for stress, anxiety, and depression (Pérez et al., 2023; Coxon et al., 2025; Barma et al., 2025).

Sugar Hardens Your Arteries and Harms Your Heart

By Orlando de Jes… | September 8, 2026
El exceso de azúcar endurece las arterias.

The trouble starts when, day after day, we flood our bloodstream with an overload of free and refined sugars. Little by little, that pliable hose begins to turn into a rigid pipe. The damage causes no immediate pain; it makes no grand entrance, working behind the scenes to stiffen vascular walls, inflame their inner lining—the endothelium—and set the stage for heart attacks and strokes (Huang et al., 2014; Yang et al., 2014; Manolis et al., 2026).

For years, even decades, the excess sugar consumed day after day can silently wear down the body's delicate metabolic machinery. By the time unquenchable thirst, unexplained fatigue, or blurred vision appear, the pancreas often already has a long history of overwork. However, science has shown that this gateway to disease doesn't slam shut; it's pushed open gradually. Understanding how insulin resistance works gives us a valuable opportunity: to prevent it before it disrupts our health.

Living Longer Is Not Enough: We Must Live Better

By Orlando de Jes… | August 11, 2026
Una mujer joven trotanto junto con su padre.

We live longer than any previous generation in human history… but most of us live sick, tired, and dependent. And much of that longer life, filled with illness, is the result of our daily choices. Today, Vida Fitness is born, a three-part series—sugar, movement, and longevity—to accompany you, week by week, on the path to a life that is not only longer, but also healthier, freer, and more fulfilling. The journey begins here.
